Track Closure vs Bend Location
  • Pressure Track Closure
  • Extruded Films and Coated Fabric jackets available
  • Mesh EMI/RFI shielding material
  • Easy to use installation pliers and slider tools

Zip-Shield® (SHX4) is an EMI shielding solution that combines a protective jacketing of your choice with the SHX-4 EMI shielding mesh and a pressure track. The jacketing is dependent on application requirements – whether you need a jacket that is military grade and flame retardant, or is free of PVC material and provides exceptional abrasion resistance, Zip-Shield® (SHX4) is offered in a wide range of jacketing options. The SHX-4 shielding mesh is made of a 4-ply tin-plated, copper-clad steel wire that is extremely durable for applications that are exposed to rugged conditions. The Zip-Shield® product line also offers products that can shield from higher frequencies with an EMI shielding foil, Zip-Shield® (SH1), or an EMI shielding cloth that is flexible, Zip-Shield® (3250) or Zip-Shield® (7200). The Zip-Shield® solutions can also be equipped with a sewn-in 15 AWG drain wire for grounded applications.

Zip-Shield® (SHX4) is typically paired with the R-Track or Z-Track. Both pressure track systems will be easy to seal and offer a long-lasting closure, and if the need to re-enter is required, you can access components easily. The Z-Track is a medium-duty pressure track closure that has an arrowhead and channel interlock system, and is the most versatile pressure track option. The Z-Track can be sealed with our ZTZ-SP plier tool. The R-Track is a light-duty pressure track closure and is similar to a zip-lock closure. The R-Track can be sealed manually with thumb or with our SLR slider tool.

Zippertubing® can also manufacture Zip-Shield® (SHX4) with our other pressure track closures, such as EZ-Track™ and D-Track, upon request.

Jacketing Options:

63-10: Flexible and lightweight PVC film that is 0.01” thick, military grade, abrasion resistant and fluid resistant.

63-20: Flexible and medium weight PVC film that is 0.02” thick, military grade, abrasion resistant and fluid resistant.

PFR-18: Extremely flexible polyurethane film that has excellent abrasion and fluid resistance, as well as being military grade and flame retardant.

PVL-10: Extremely flexible and lightweight PVC-coated polyester fabric that has high tear strength and excellent abrasion resistance, as well as being military grade.

VNH-23: Extremely flexible and medium weight nylon fabric that has a PVC coating, is military grade, flame retardant, and provides durable protection for applications in rugged environmental conditions.

DVH-20: Durable polyester fabric with a PVC coating that is flame retardant, abrasion resistant, and ideal for applications in which components may be exposed to harsh outdoor conditions.

DVH-40: Heavy duty polyester fabric that has a PVC coating and is extremely tough for rugged conditions, such as industrial applications in which abrasion and tear resistance are required.

NET-30: Medium weight jacket made of woven polyester fibers with a PVC coating that is flame retardant and abrasion resistant and allows air or water to pass freely through the jacket for applications with such requirements.

RPU-17: Flexible and medium weight, white polyurethane and polyester fabric jacketing that is tear resistant and flame retardant.

Q:  What is the difference between the track closure styles?

A:  Each interlocking track profile has unique benefits and trade-offs.  To learn about them you can review our Track Comparison.

Q:  How do I close the jacketing?

A:  Some tracks can be closed by hand, but we also offer closure tools to assist with installation.  For more information on closing the specific tracks you can view our helpful videos or installation guides:

Q:  Can I cut the tubing?

A:  Yes.  Standard scissors are suitable for cutting through most Zip-On jackets and tracks.

Q:  What lengths of material are available?

A:  Typical spool lengths for most sizes are 100 feet, but will depend on total order footage.  Custom lengths can be provided, just make sure to ask when ordering or include details on the PO for the lengths required.

Q:  Will the track keep out water and is it water-tight?

A:  Our different track closures are rated between IP54 and IP55. This means they are not water tight but will provide significant protection against moisture and fluid ingress.
Some users will apply tape or a sealant to the track, after closing, to provide additional protection.

Q:  What diameter of jacketing do I need?  Is it recommended to oversize?

A:  We will often suggest oversizing the sleeve diameter by 1/8” to allow for ease of install
when using a closure tool.  If the application requires significant bending or flexing we will suggest even more extra room.  For assistance with sizing you can also contact one of our design engineers.

Q:  What is the minimum bend radius of the tubing?

A:  There is no minimum bend radius for our Zip-On products. The flexible jacketing material allows for extreme amounts of bending and flexing.  The bend radius of the installed tubing is typically dictated by the harness it is covering.
